Based on the activity we are engaged in, our brain produces different brain waves. Brain waves are electrical signals generated during the exchange of information among neurons. There are four types of brainwaves: Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.

The term "brainwave entrainment" refers to the use of rhythmic auditory stimuli with the intention of producing a frequency following response (FFR) of the brainwaves to match the frequency of the stimuli. By listening to music containing these frequencies it is possible to alter the brainwaves and the state of mind.

Brainwave entrainment music uses an audio technology known as "binaural beats" to create changes in brainwave activity. Binaural beats are created when the brain processes two auditory signals of similar frequency, presented separately to the left and right ear through stereo headphones. For the full experience it's best to use a quality pair of headphones or earbuds. You may be able to hear the binaural beats as a subtle pulsing sound beneath the music.

Music and the human mind have a unique relationship which isn't yet fully understood. Future research may shine more light on the complex relationship between them.
